In exploring just a few of the advancements, events, and their profound effects, we can see how agriculture is significantly embedded throughout American history. Slavery, undoubtedly the most controversial institution in American history, finds its origins in agriculture. Some of America’s greatest achievements have been advances in agriculture. Agriculture was the root of the early American economy, existing before, and in many ways contributing to the great success of American industry. Agriculture was and is the most essential intuition in our great nation, and will forever hold its place in history as such.
American agriculture has since waned in population, giving way to the numerous industries we now see as necessary. Only 2.6% of the American labor force can now call themselves farmers. But the stepping stones provided by the pioneers of American agriculture have led to greater production than ever before seen. Agriculture is and always will be an essential cornerstone of America and the world.
